Case Study - Goring Tennis Club

Client: Goring Tennis Club

Location: Goring-on-Thames, Reading, Oxfordshire. South East.

Project Overview

Goring Tennis Club, a friendly and well-established village tennis club set in a picturesque location in South Oxfordshire, sought to expand and enhance its facilities. The project included the installation of lighting for 2 new tennis courts, an upgrade of lighting on 2 existing courts, and full planning submission support.

Given the club’s scenic setting and close proximity to neighbouring residential properties, the project required a carefully engineered lighting solution to meet strict planning and environmental standards.

The Challenge

The primary challenges included:

  • Proximity to Residential Properties: The courts are located near neighbouring homes, making control of light spill and glare a critical planning consideration.
  • Picturesque Village Setting: The club sits within an attractive rural environment, meaning visual impact and environmental sensitivity were key planning factors.
  • Planning Compliance: The system needed to minimise upward light spill, prevent intrusive glare, and comply with ILP (Institute of Lighting Professionals) guidance.

The Solution

Luminance Pro Lighting Systems Ltd designed a bespoke LED sports lighting scheme using HiLux Match FS LED Luminaires (Fully Shrouded).

  • Fully shrouded design for maximum light containment.
  • Optimised beam control to reduce unnecessary spill.
  • Excellent glare control and ILP-compliant performance.
  • High-efficiency LED technology providing uniform playing surface illumination.

Planning Approval & Delivery

Thanks to the precision optical control of the HiLux Match FS luminaires and our comprehensive technical submission, planning approval was successfully achieved. Spill light limits were met, environmental concerns addressed, and neighbour amenity protected.

Following approval, we delivered a complete turnkey installation with professional project management, ensuring minimal disruption to club activities and staying within the agreed budget.
