Project Overview

Lansdown Tennis Squash & Croquet Club is widely regarded as one of the premier racquet sports venues in the South West. As part of its ongoing commitment to quality and sustainability, the club initiated a comprehensive tennis court lighting modernisation programme aimed at improving performance while lowering long-term operating costs. Luminance Pro Lighting Systems Ltd was appointed to upgrade the lighting on eight existing courts and to secure planning permission for three additional floodlit courts.

The Challenge

The primary challenges included:

  • Nearby Homes: With housing in close proximity to the courts, effective control of glare and light spill was essential.
  • Historic Location: Bath is a UNESCO World Heritage city. Any external infrastructure must respect this distinctive visual identity.
  • Planning Compliance: The scheme was required to adhere to ILP recommendations and achieve LTA lighting standards.

The Solution

Luminance Pro Lighting Systems Ltd designed a bespoke LED floodlighting system centred around HiLux Match FS fully shrouded luminaires.

  • Reduction in column height from 10 metres to 8 metres.
  • Fully shielded luminaires and precisely engineered beam control to limit spill.
  • Compliance with ILP standards and advanced glare reduction for player comfort.
  • High-efficiency LED performance with uniform light coverage.

Planning Approval & Delivery

Working alongside the club's designated planning consultant and architect, the revised configuration and tightly controlled optical performance formed the foundation of a strong planning submission. This resulted in approval for both upgraded and additional courts.

Following approval, Luminance Pro delivered the installation in full, including complete project management from start to finish. The works were carefully scheduled to limit disruption and were delivered within the agreed budget and timescales.
